“The comprehensive yet compact guide and map to The Castle of Good Hope and its offerings is sold to tourists, at a nominal fee, as a handy keepsake at the gate. Tourists can purchase either an English or an Afrikaans version, depending on their preference,” says the Castle of Good Hope’s new chief executive, Calvyn Gilfellan.
“The Z-CARD
® map names every part of the Castle and provides information using a key point reference system ensuring that tourists find their way around with ease,” he adds.
Built between 1666 and 1679, the Castle of Good Hope is the oldest surviving building in South Africa. As a service-orientated public entity, the Castle Control Board strives to optimise the Castle’s tourism potential and accessibility to the public and to preserve and protect its cultural and military heritage.
In the spirit of Heritage and Tourism month, the Castle Control Board provides the public with free access on Tuesday, 24 September (Heritage Day) and Friday, 27 September (World Tourism Day).
Over the years the Castle of Good Hope has produced a number of handy Z-CARD
® guides in English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian and French.
