The new business win follows hard on the heels of another success in the highly competitive beverages market, the agency acquisition of the J.C. Le Roux account, another highly-prized Distell brand.

The Klipdrift account gain means that the Johannesburg agency in the TBWA\SA stable now handles the advertising of six leading Distell brands – Klipdrift, J.C. Le Roux, Mainstay, Scottish Leader, Bain’s and Bisquit.

The Klipdrift account was won in a four-way pitch.

Pete Khoury, the agency’s chief creative officer, commented: “It’s such an awesome opportunity to work on a brand that is truly a South African icon. Klipdrift brandy has a unique place in this country’s brand landscape and it’s a privilege to be part of its future. It’s brave work that pushes the brand and the category into a new space.”

As the lead creative and strategic agency on Klipdrift work, TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris Johannesburg will develop through-the-line campaigns for the brand’s high-growth markets.

Priorities include new positioning, a new campaign idea and collaborative campaigns across a number of communication channels.

Fred Leclezio, global marketing manager noted: “The strategy presented by the agency addressed many of the key challenges and opportunities faced by our brand. The creative idea and mechanism are flexible, highly social, insightful and grounded. We can’t wait to get going on developing the concept further.”
