The Jupiter Drawing Room opened its doors for business in Johannesburg in May 1989. The Cape Town office started in 1993. Both offices comprise the brand The Jupiter Drawing Room (South Africa).
When the agency was founded in 1989 its philosophy was enshrined in the expression Rem tene, verba sequentur. (Grasp the subject and the words will follow). This reflected the belief that the best work could only be achieved by a thorough understanding of the task at hand.
In 2004, for the first time, The Jupiter Drawing Room revisited its philosophy. And while the sentiments behind it remain true, it has articulated what it stands for in a new way: “Esse quam videre”, meaning ‘To be rather than to seem’.
100% of the shares of The Jupiter Drawing Room offices are in the hands of South African nationals or permanent residents. This makes The Jupiter Drawing Room unusual amongst South African agencies. It is the largest of only three independent agencies in the Top Twenty SA Agencies.
The largest individual shareholder is MSG Romani Investment Holding with 56% of the equity in Johannesburg and 26% in Cape Town. MSG Romanis’ owners, Given Mkhari, Simphiwe Mdlalose and Mohale Ralebitso are all actively involved in The Jupiter Drawing Room and occupy executive board positions.
The remaining shares are in the hands of the founding partners who are full time employees of The Jupiter Drawing Room.
Johannesburg clients include Absa, Air France, Discovery, Edgars, Emperors Palace, Fruitopia, Girls & Boystown, Investec Asset Management, Jaguar, Jik, Just Juice, Legit, Minute Maid, Sasol, SAA, Temptations, Vanish, Winnie the Pooh, and Woolite – amongst many others.
