One of the most popular African musicals of all time which put South Africa on the international map is back! A brand new version of
Umoja, The Spirit of Togetherness returns to the Victory Theatre in Houghton Estate on 8 August this year after two highly successful overseas tours.
Umoja has already been seen by audiences in 28 countries and transports audiences into the history of South African music and dance. The 50-piece cast is made up from a myriad of South African cultures that each have their own story to tell. The award-winning show has grown immensely over the years and will continue to do so with this latest season which has been totally revamped in terms of choreography, style and music.
Says the show’s creator Todd Twala: “We are thrilled that
Umoja is coming back to South Africa after a tour to both Paris and Martinique. It was so popular that it has been booked for a return to both places for another two months from November.
“The second Umoja company has just got back from Spain and has been booked again for eight weeks from October. Since we’ve got these two months we felt we should touch base and go back home to the Victory Theatre to show the South African public that Umoja is still cooking. We’ve added some new material to the show and we can’t wait to show off the new kids on the block – there is phenomenal talent!”
The rebuilt Victory Theatre boasts four levels of secure onsite parking (at R10 per car) and an indoor/outdoor a la carte restaurant that can seat and cater for 460 people (the same capacity as the theatre).
Best access to The Victory Theatre from the north is on the M1. Take the Riviera off ramp and go along 1st Avenue Houghton and at the T-junction at Louis Botha turn left and The Victory Theatre and secure parking is 150 metres down the road on the left after the BP garage. From the south you take the 1st Avenue Houghton turnoff.
