Kick Off magazine has joined forces with Puma and hosted a soccer clinic at Witkoppen Primary in Fourways on Friday, 25 July. The initiative aims to assist with the development of soccer at a grass-root level, motivating and educating learners about the game and the use of the correct techniques.
“We are proud to be aligned with such an empowering initiative”, says Puma Regional Marketing Manager, James Mullen.
The soccer clinic was hosted by Sundowns Development coach, Isaac Shai and former Sundowns player - now player manager, Trevor Moseathebe. The focus was on the fundamental techniques of becoming a good soccer player and included information relating to proper warm-up and cool down exercises; creating awareness among learners of the possible injuries that can arise from a lack of good muscle warm-ups.
According to
KO Marketing Manager, Roxanne Jooste, the soccer clinics have grown in stature with more than 20 schools applying to host them at any given time. “Witkoppen Primary has a fantastic sports participation programme, and are avid supporters of the game of soccer, with over 10 teams at their school alone,” adds Jooste.
The session ran from 11:00 to 13:00. The two coaches helped mentor and motivate the students in sports participation, and encouraged them to stay dedicated and passionate about their goals in life.
Kick Off Editor, Neil Greig concludes, “
Kick Off believes that talent has to be found and nurtured at school level and is fully behind this initiative. Once again, we would like to encourage schools to continue to contact us and motivate their reasons why we should host a clinic at their school.”
