This follows the announcement on Friday, 16 September by Media24 CEO Esmaré Weideman and The Huffington Post CEO Jared Grusd that the two publishing companies have partnered to launch the local publication.

This is the 17th international and first sub-Saharan edition of HuffPost as the company continues to expand its global presence since its launch in May 2011. Beukes’ extensive experience in the publishing industry made her the obvious choice for the job, Weideman says.

“Charlene’s business acumen, drive, sales experience, and leadership abilities are the perfect combination for HuffPost SA. We will be rooting for her all the way as she embarks on this exciting next phase of her career.”

Beukes has been GM of Media24’s Lifestyle division since September 2014. She has worked for the group for more than two decades and has left her mark in nearly every division in the wider group. With a BCom degree, she started her media career in the Beeld advertising sales team in 1989. Since then she has held sales, marketing and management positions across magazines, 24.com and MWeb

HuffPost believes in journalism that has real impact, says Beukes. “Internationally, the brand has been successful in delivering content in a way that creates authentic relationships with consumers. I’m excited to put this unique proposition to a South African audience and our advertising partners. I’m grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Grusd says he is looking forward to working closely with Beukes. “South Africa is an extremely exciting market for us and Charlene has just the right combination of skill and expertise to unlock the territory’s full potential for the brand.”

Beukes will take up her new post from Saturday, 1 October.
