VOETSPORE

From Friday, 19 September the VOETSPORE team’s journey from Gansbaai to Gabon will be broadcast from 18:00 on SABC2.
The expedition this year was led by Johan Badenhorst, and follows the team’s most ambitious project ever. The team has explored the lower western parts of the continent, and now do some “bundu-bashing” into territories previously out of bounds for the everyday safari-aficionado.
The series picks up with the same team that has explored Africa in the Cape to Cairo Safari for the last two years. However, the team turns west this time around, travelling from Gansbaai to Gabon, setting out from the southernmost tip of Africa, through the Kalahari and Namibia’s Kaudum, and reaching Angola. Here the team will spend a month before travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo and across a mighty waterway to Brazzaville and Pointe Noire. With Gabon, the Jewel of Africa, sparking in their viewfinders, the team will also explore the Atlantic islands of São Tomé en Príncipe.
The team takes the viewers along in their utility vehicles, with roadside camps at night – this is no small feat, as most of the area north of Namibia has not been developed for tourism. This safari is therefore important to establish a new safari route on the continent.
The team of VOETSPORE consists of Johan Badenhorst as expedition leader, his twelve-year-old son Streicher as general assistant, Lourens Human as cameraman, and Rey Janse van Rensburg as mechanic and photographer. Sound recording is done by Gideon Swart and Deo Magoye is the guide and bush lore expert.
Follow the VOETSPORE team as they adventure across 26 episodes, broadcast on Friday evenings at 18:00 on SABC2 from 19 September.
