The screenings for
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will take place in multi-sensory 4DX at Nu Metro Hyde Park (Johannesburg), The Pavilion (Durban), and V&A Waterfront (Cape Town).
The new Scene Xtreme cinema at Nu Metro Canal Walk (Cape Town) and Scene Xtreme at Nu Metro Menlyn Park (Pretoria) will showcase the movie with full 360 degrees, all around-sound and Ultra High Definition-quality on a large screen (including laser projection at Xtreme Canal Walk). Scene Xtreme cinemas also feature luxury recliner-seating.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the eighth film in the Star Wars-franchise but the first to step outside the narrative of the other seven films in a standalone story set shortly before the events of 1977’s original
Star Wars — though Darth Vader, the Galactic Empire and The Death Star remain key elements. It follows a group of rebel spies trying to steal the schematics for the Empire’s Death Star.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is filled with dynamic and kinetic depictions of huge battle sequences. Tilting forward and backward movements are deployed to give a feeling of free-floating in the X-Wing fighter plane during battle scenes. Air shots and tickler effects add to the thrill factor for the fire fight with stormtroopers - accompanied by swirling wind and deep vibrations from the motion chair. And, when the Empire’s new weapon, is about to unleash its power and the group of rebels tries to fight back, the combination of 4DX effects such as fog, water, and scents add another layer of immersive reality to the film.
The screening at Nu Metro Menlyn Park (Pretoria) will be accompanied by a Hot Toys activation and will also feature guest appearances from a few
Star Wars cosplay characters.
