On Die Superskool, South African high schools will battle it out against one another to be crowned South Africa’s 'super school'. Each school team from across South Africa will consist of three of the school’s brightest pupils and will be supported by one of their teachers.

Die Superskool will be presented by Afrikaans singer and rapper, Snotkop with Huisgenoot being the official media partner.

“It’s going to be more than just a classic quiz show. The challenges are specifically created to capture the spirit of this unique and diverse generation. It is not only about being academically smart,” says Izelle Venter, channel head of VIA.

“The expenses of the chosen schools will be covered by VIA. The production company, Gravitate, is known for their good work in the industry and pupils will be in great hands,” adds Venter. “We are looking forward to welcoming schools from all over South Africa. Everyone who understands Afrikaans is more than welcome to enter, even if you do not speak Afrikaans fluently.”

Die Superskool will consist of 15 half-hour episodes and will air from September. During this period, the teams will be tested on memory, concentration capabilities, and knowledge of language, maths, general knowledge, and pop culture. The winning team will receive R250 000 for their high school. The team that comes in second will receive R100 000 and the team that comes in third will receive R50 000.

To enter, schools must compile and send a short video before Monday, 19 June in which they talk about their school, the three pupils that will represent the school on Die Superskool, and the teacher that will assist the team. The top entries will be put through a test round before they can qualify for the programme.

Participants must be available from Saturday, 8 July to Saturday, 15 July for recordings. Transport and accommodation will be provided for pupils who do not live close to where the programme is recorded. TV guides for VIA are available in Afrikaans newspapers, the Huisgenoot, tvplus and on the VIA and DStv websites.
