Bloomberg, which delivers financial information and global business news, said in May at the international IAB’s NewFronts event in New York that it was partnering with Twitter to create a breaking news network. At the time, Bloomberg Media indicated in a press release that the network would stream live videos from Bloomberg journalists, and video content from citizens via Twitter.

The TicToc by Bloomberg Twitter account posted its first tweet on Monday, 11 December and describes itself as the “first and only global news network streaming LIVE on Twitter”. The account’s posts indicate that it will provide live coverage and analysis of significant political events, economics, conflicts, disasters, technology, sports, and culture, among other topics.

The network has six founding partners, Goldman Sachs, Infiniti, TD Ameritrade, CA Technologies, AT&T, and CME Group, the media company Axios reported in November. Axios’ Sara Fischer wrote that Bloomberg would hire around 50 people to staff the project.

Bloomberg Media CEO, Justin B Smith, explained in May that the company is “setting out to reinvent the digital breaking news experience”.

Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait added that the network should allow the company to extend its global news gathering capabilities to Twitter's user base of more than 300 million monthly users. "Combining the journalism, data, and editorial rigour of Bloomberg with the social content of Twitter will enable us to cover the world in a very new and exciting way."

Broadcasts will be available through the Twitter-owned live video streaming app Periscope at www.pscp.tv.
