"Jacaranda FM is such an exciting and vibrant brand to work for; it’s a station that has fully embraced digital into its strategy," Schwarp says. With experience in both broadcast and digital media, Schwarp says that the new role is a challenge he is up for.
"The most exciting part is that I get to build on the great foundation that the digital team laid over the last few years, so I’m excited to take 'Jaca-digital' to a whole new level," Schwarp adds.
In 2017, Schwarp was the host of his own late night weekday talk radio show on CapeTalk, and was also the host and executive producer of VIA TV’s weekly Afrikaans entertainment news show, #GONS.
According to Jacaranda FM, Schwarp first became interested in South African media at university. He received a full bursary to study Law at Stellenbosch University, but declined in order to pursue a bachelor of arts degree in drama.
During his third-year of television and radio classes, lecturers Elsabe Daneel and Susan Beyers encouraged Schwarp to join the campus radio station – MFM 92.6 – in 2012.
In 2015, he accepted an internship at Netwerk24 where he spent time creating digital content for the news title.
In 2016/2017, Schwrap spearheaded Media24’s digital youth platform, WeCan24. In 2018, he moved on to conceptualise and co-present a weekly digital red carpet show for SARIE.com called KolligKUIERS – a first for Afrikaans digital audiences.
Schwarp is currently the host of Jacaranda FM’s High School Hits Weekends (airing on Saturdays from 12:00 to 16:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00). He is also a field presenter on KykNET & Kie’s actuality programme, KLOP!, which airs on Sundays at 19:30 on DStv channel 145.
