The roadshows took place for the first time in 2018, with members of the judging panel, together with convenor judge, Mathatha Tsedu, visiting all the major media houses in South Africa.

The purpose of the roadshow is to make editors and journalists aware of the awards as well as to explain how they work and answer any queries. As a result of the roadshows, 2018 saw an increase of entries into the awards and an increase in the quality of the entries.

"Following the roadshows, the editors encouraged their journalists to enter, and we believe no marketing can beat this," says Tsedu.

The roadshows are taking place at Independent in Johannesburg on Thursday, 31 January and then at Media24, the Independent and The Citizen on Tuesday, 5 February. On Wednesday, 6 February the roadshow will be at Media 24, Tiso Blackstar and M&G in Johannesburg.

Entries close on Wednesday, 13 March, and this year there is no extension for late entries. The awards will take place on Thursday, 12 September at The Venue, Melrose Arch.

All the 2018 winners received R15 000, a trophy and a certificate, while all finalists received certificates. Commendation Certificates are awarded at the judges’ discretion.
