Beyond the blaze

This month’s edition of the magazine highlights the recent blazes in the Overberg region (page 12) and profiles a social enterprise that’s helping to prevent fires in informal settlements (page 16).

Big Issue journalist Lungisa Mnqwazi shares his experiences of living with the constant threat of shack fires in Masiphumele, near Fish Hoek (page 15).

The team at The Big Issue says, “A big shout-out to CapeNature for allowing us to use its iconic ‘bokkie’ image on our front cover. Who can forget the old ‘bokkie’ poster?”

Cheers to The Big Issue’s champions!

The Big Issue is celebrating the efforts of its champions, Jeremy and Nicole Olivier (page 32) and Candice Dorman (page 34), who have made a difference in the lives of valued vendors.

The magazine invites all of its readers to partner with it and help change vendors’ lives for the better.
