On the magazine’s March 2019 cover are local influencers Mihlali Ndamase, Nadia Jaftha and Jessica Van Heerden. COSMOPOLITAN editor Holly Meadows says she chose the three influencers because they are the most recognisable female talents on YouTube right now.

“For this issue, our second annual influencer edition, we decided to focus on YouTube influence,” says Meadows. “Collectively, our cover stars have clocked up more than 12 million video views and their content and followings have attracted endorsement deals from big-name beauty and fashion brands. Individually, they’re building impressive [and lucrative] social media-led businesses.”

Meadows adds, “We actually never planned to shoot a selfie cover, but once we gave our cover stars the shutter release, and allowed them to photograph themselves, their personalities really came alive. When we saw the image, we knew it had to be the cover.”

According to COSMOPOLITAN, with 400 hours of content uploaded every single minute and 87% of women visiting the platform daily or weekly, YouTube is fast becoming the global fan destination for female-led content. In the cover feature, COSMOPOLITAN interviews the women on how they ‘flipped their social-media hobbies into legitimate brands and businesses’.

The March issue also features a list of the top 10 South African YouTubers, MTV presenter and YouTube channel host Kim Jayde Robinson and Matte Jacobs, Shane Kayser and Arnando Gericke, who serve up makeup looks in a new YouTube series for the brand.

Tune in to COSMOPOLITAN’s YouTube channel on Friday, 8 March from noon to 13:00 to watch a live stream from the YouTube panel discussion.
