"Pet owners are so devoted to their four-legged and winged family members that this magazine has drawn an amazing amount of interest even before going to print,” says Gerda Engelbrecht, editor of Animal Antics. "It was truly a ‘pet project’ for many animal lovers at Media24. We are completely in love with the cover."

Animal Antics also investigates issues such as whether animals can communicate with humans and how intelligent dogs are – there’s even an IQ test for readers' pooch. Additionally, the magazine contains informative articles on microchipping, pet nutrition and alternative medicine for animals.

"And if you and your dog want to keep fit, check out the list of dog breeds with various running capabilities and follow the extensive training programme included. There are also vet-approved dog food recipes created by Sarie’s well-known food editor, Herman Lensing, as well as DIY projects such as building a dog house or chicken coop," says the team at Animal Antics.

"In recognition of its selfless work, Media24 will donate R2 of the cover prize of each issue sold to animal welfare societies, many of which are sustained by the dedication of unpaid volunteers," says Nerisa Coetzee, general manager of Media24: monthlies.

Animal Antics (as well as the Afrikaans version, Dieremaniere) will be on shelf from the first week of October and is distributed with a cover-mount from Whiskas cat food.
