According to Contact Media & Communications, the impact of the pandemic on various industries, as well as the publishing industry, has been devastating and, like many businesses globally, took time to reflect, evaluate and restructure the business with a strategic focus on content creation and experiential marketing.

Press says, "We were given the opportunity to pass the baton of one of our well-loved publications to a great company with great people. As a company, we are very passionate about Spotong and what we achieved with a magazine that did so much for the township community and ended up becoming such a big part of entrepreneurship in South Africa."

"We launched seven years ago with the aim of celebrating and empowering township entrepreneurs, and we were grateful to see it not only achieve that but also diversify into a web and digital platform and an annual event known as the Spotong Township Entrepreneurs Summit," Press adds.

"Due to the pandemic, we were forced to forgo printing and go digital-only. But, under the new ownership, Spotong will not only go back to print but will be available more frequently as a bi-monthly magazine under the guidance of current editor, Charlene Heyburgh. Charlene will continue steering the ship with the current sales representatives and design team," he says.

"We couldn’t have asked for a better company to hand over the reigns to and we are confident that 3S Media will give Spotong the opportunity that it deserves and continue to take the magazine from strength to strength with their wealth of knowledge and expertise in the publishing industry," he adds.

Spotong magazine will join other publications in the 3S Media stable, which include IMIESA, RéSource, Inside Mining, Meetings, The Meetings & Event Planner, The Exhibition Planner, Women in MICE, Water & Sanitation Africa, www.infrastructurenews.co.za, www.miningnews.co.za and www.theplanner.guru.

"We are excited about the future of Spotong magazine and growing this remarkable brand targeting the core entrepreneurial market in South Africa. The footprint of Spotong includes an engaged digital audience, social media community, events and Stokvel programmes, which are all centred around the core print brand," concludes Jacques Breytenbach, general manager publishing at Novus Print.
