South Africans voted overwhelmingly to determine the winner of Idols Season V. For the first time, the voting public had 100% say in the outcome of the competition and from the Top 14 round onwards Idols fans cast 7 803 384 votes to keep their favourites in the show.

“These phenomenal voting statistics clearly demonstrate that Idols is still a well-loved reality show format and that South Africa was actively and passionately involved in supporting the Idols contestants,” says Helen Smit, M-Net’s Head of Local Content.

Sasha Lee Davids walked off with the coveted title of South Africa’s fifth Idol, while Jason Hartman was the runner-up.
