Mashel took his next big step in 2022 when he joined the bigger platform of YOU FM to host the Midday Boost, where he quickly built a loyal audience and cemented his place as a defining voice on the station through his personality, relatable storytelling and unfiltered approach to midday radio. After a year away from broadcasting; during which he expanded his national profile as a contestant on Big Brother Mzansi, where he was a strategic player; Mashel now returns to reclaim the show that helped shape his radio identity, bringing renewed energy, strategic flair and a deeper connection to listeners who followed his journey both on and off the air, says the station.
Kea Ratlhagane joins the show as Producer following her departure from Breakfast with YOU, where she served as Co-Host. Her move marks a transition from on-air talent to a strategic behind-the-scenes role. Reuniting professionally with Mashel, she brings creative insight and strong audience understanding to the Midday Boost team.
As a station rooted in the North West, YOU FM continues to prioritise the growth and elevation of homegrown talent, aligning with its manifesto commitment to create radio that listens, engages and inspires. Guided by the belief that audiences deserve radio that reflects their lifestyle, aspirations and cultural identity, YOU FM remains dedicated to amplifying authentic local voices while building meaningful connections with the communities it serves, adds the station.
Managing Director, Tebogo Mashego, comments that the station is pleased to announce the return of Mashel to its platform. The decision to reintroduce him was informed by listeners' insights, which reflects the station's strategic intention to position the station competitively as one that diligently caters to its audience by aligning all activities with their aspirations. YOU FM recognises the importance of understanding its audience through active listening. The station aims to mirror their lifestyles, aspirations, needs and preferences — aiming to fulfil their radio consumption needs. The station concludes that it is excited that Mashel will bring his creativity, which will contribute to the station's strategic positioning for audience growth and the unlocking of commercial value for its partners.
