This year’s Channel O Music Video Awards have been applauded as the best ever – and viewers can now be part of the action when Africa’s leading awards event is broadcast on Sunday, 8 November.

Carnival City was the venue for the event, which saw Africa’s top artists turn out to celebrate the best and most brilliant that the continent has to offer. And what a line-up of stars it was.

The red carpet was abuzz with action as the nominees; performers; and celebrities made their way into the Big Top Arena on the evening of 29 October. From South Africa’s own Da L.E.S to Zimbabwe’s Buffalo Souljah; Namibia’s Gal Level; and Nigeria’s Darey Art Alade, the style and sass of Africa’s biggest stars can be seen on Sunday night’s broadcast when the Channel O Music Video Awards Red Carpet Special kicks off at 20:30.

Come 21:00, it’s time for the real fireworks to begin as a parade of winners take to the podium to receive their awards, much to the delight of their fans in attendance.

The real highlight of this year’s Channel O Music Video Awards were the live performances, which included a tribute to Special Recognition Award recipient, Brenda Fassie. In what many concluded was the heart and soul of this year’s event, Brenda’s son, Bongani (of Jozi fame), and Winnie Khumalo ignited the stage with renditions of two of Brenda’s biggest hits – Weekend Special and Vulindlela.

Other performances came from Nigerian singer-songwriter, Nneka, South Africa’s own HHP, African Hip-Hop Royalty for the Emcee Africa II winner track, All Around Africa, as well as TKZEE in one of their first live television performances since getting back in the studio.

The show closed in roaring style with a sizzling hot performance by Mozambique’s Lizha James, who brought down the house with her Afrocentric number. Also adding to the night’s super-charged entertainment were hosts Vuzu presenter, Nonhle, and Channel O’s own Lungile and KB. They were joined by an impressive lineup of guest presenters including Channel O VJs, Chuma; the Twinz; Enhle; and Top Mais host, Weza.

So don’t miss out on seeing Africa’s best and biggest stars in full flight. Tune in to the 2009 Channel O Music Video Awards on Sunday, 8 November at 20:30 for the Red Carpet Special and 21:00 for the Awards event itself.
