Meet SABC1’s new presenters!

SABC1 has gone through a lengthy auditioning process, searching for individuals that represented the channel from a language point of view, as well extended the channel’s elements through lifestyle, social responsiveness and community engagements.
The following presenters have been added to SABC1’s cast: Lalla “Miss LA” Hirayama (English); Zongie “Zongolong” Mtshontshi (IsiXhosa); Nhlanhla “Cutee” Ngwenya (IsiSwati); and Steve “Stevovo” Smith (English).
Here are the new ambassadors of SABC1.

Lalla Hirayama
Lalla was born in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa-Ken, Japan. She moved to Australia and then to South Africa at an early age. She started her primary schooling at Fairways Primary. She started horse riding in 1977 and joined the athletics team (A-Team) and became Junior Horse Riding Champ 1997. In 2001 she taught hip hop, tap and modern dancing in Kagoshima, Japan. In 2002, back in South Africa, she registered for high school education at The British International College where she was also involved with dance training. In 2005 she started performing professionally, dancing at a number of corporate functions under the Vigor8 Company. In 2006, she formed the ACC (Clinch City Entertainment), a hip hop marketing & events company. She became the official dancer for a number of well known local artists including the late Lebo Mathosa, Slikour’s, Relo, and
performed with Swatta Kamp. she also featured in Unathi’s and Loyiso’s music videos. In 2007, she became an SABC dancer at the Rand Show, Royal Show and the Grahamstown Festival.

Your hobbies: Reading, riding horses, playing piano and guitar and being in the company of good friends.

Zongie Mtshontshi
Zongie is 26 years-old and comes from Umtata in the Eastern Cape. She comes from a family of two: “I’m the only girl and my younger brother is 18 years old”.
She matriculated at Excelsior Comprehensive High in the Eastern Cape in 1998. She then moved to Durban and enrolled at ML Sultan in Quantity Surveying.
After 3 years she moved to Jozi and enrolled at the AAA School of Advertising for an IMC (Integrated Marketing Communications). She started modelling for a while and did a lot of campaigns like Nivea, Gallia, Always Ultra, Castle Lite, McDonald and many more TV ads. She did a lot of magazine work and also worked with Mr Price and Edgars a lot. She likes interacting with people and she is a very outspoken person who feels she is perfect for where she is now!

Nhlanhla Ngwenya
19 year-old Nhlanhla is originally from a place in Nelspruit called Daantjie. She is the last born in a big and happy family comprised of both her parents, 2 brothers and a sister. She matriculated in 2005 at Mayibuye Secondary School.
Nhlanhla is an active young lady who is interested and has been involved in drama, poetry, debates, cultural dance, modelling and singing. She is also a member of a well-known Mpumalanga group called NST Bayeza Africa Drama. She has a number of beauty pageants under her belt including Miss Mfelandawonye in 2004 organised by Ligwalagwala FM. She featured in radio dramas on Ligwalagwala FM. She has earned herself a couple of certificates in drama and music.

Steve Smith
He was born in Durban in KZN 24 years ago. He is a professional dancer and holds the Multiple SA Aerobicsport Championship. Steve teaches Hip Hop and Funk and is an expert kwasa-kwasa dancer. He represented South Africa at the Multiple Karate Championship. He is a house DJ and part of the JenDuo DJ group. He completed his BA Degree in the UK, and is a football fanatic who also plays whenever he can. His favourite player is Mikkel Arteta. He is a former presenter on Sportsbuzz with Sebs and Graeme, and presented and danced on several TV shows over the years.

The presenters are considered Channel Ambassadors, and they will serve as custodians of Mzansi’s favourite Television Channel and Africa’s biggest media brand.
The current SABC1 presenters have been retained, and the total number of channel presenters is now seven. The other presenters are: Zamaswazi (Zama) Ngcobo; Nkosinathi Ntuli; and Fezile Makhanya.
