Coming up on Carte Blanche on Sunday, 14 March at 19:00 on M-Net:
Metro Cops
There are plenty of Metro cops doing good work, but it’s news of the bad ones that always comes our way. In many instances, punishment and intimidation of offenders far outweighs the crime. We cite one case where a minor double parking offence led to a woman being manhandled, arrested, handcuffed and thrown into jail. Devi Sankaree Govender unpacks the Tshwane metro police’s latest exploits.
Barge Marge
In July last year, in icy seas off the Cape of Storms, an eight-storey vessel, carrying 12 barges, ran aground. Since then the Dutch-owned 'Barge Margaret' patiently awaited its fate. Salvage attempts were unsuccessful and tragedy struck two weeks ago, with the death of a contractor. Finally, the vessel was blown up off the West Coast village of Jacobsbaai, and Carte Blanche's Alison Hofer was there.
El Al
No-one’s complaining about the need for top-class security at airports and on airlines, but just how far can it go before it’s seen to be harassment, or even illegal? That’s the question asked last year, when we exposed how Israeli security agents operated at OR Tambo. That story made news around the world. Bongani Bingwa finds out what’s changed since then.
Andre Rieu
The number one male performer in the world last year and one of the biggest earning entertainers, Andre Rieu rivals Oprah and U2. He is set to break all records in South Africa later this year, with sold out performances for flamboyant concerts that know no bounds. Annika Larsen meets the man who has the world waltzing to his tune.
