An awards ceremony was held at the Johannesburg City Hall on 11 October to award the best African music at the Channel O Spirit of Africa Music Video Awards. The Awards, sponsored by Amarula Cream, saw the best of the continent’s entertainment scene turn out in full force to see the winners. The event was hosted by D'Banj, Nigerian singer and songwriter, and DJ S'bu. It featured a host of live performances, and the winnings were dominated by artists from Namibia, Nigeria, Mozambique and Kenya. The event was recorded live and will be broadcast on Channel O on 27 October. The awards winners were as follows: - Best Male Video: Nameless - Sinzia from Kenya; - Best Female Video: Dama Do Bling - Danca Do Remexe from Mozambique; - Best Newcomer: The Dogg - Baby Don't Go from Namibia; - Best Duo Or Group: P Square - Bizzy Boy from Nigeria; - Best Dance Video: Acid - Banyane E Basimane from Botswana; - Best Ragga Dancehall Video: Peter Miles from Uganda; - Best R&B Video: Lizha James from Mozambique; - Best Kwaito: Gazza – Mokasie from Namibia; - Best African Southern: Dama Do Bling - Danca Do Remexe from Mozambique; - Best African West: De Indispensensables - I Love U from Nigeria; - Best African East: Juma Nature – Mugambo from Tanzania; - Best Hip-Hop Video: Scar – Metlholo from Botswana; - Best Special Effects: D'Banj - Why Me from Nigeria; - Best Director: E.A.B.C – Kube from Kenya; and - Video Of The Year: E.A.B.C – Kube from Kenya.
