More than 40 000 fans have been waiting with bated breath to see if André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra will arrive in time for his first show. The good news is that both they are in Sun City and fans are one step closer to seeing the King of Waltz perform live for the first time in our country.
Despite severe air travel disruptions in Europe due to the volcanic ash from the Iceland volcano, the set and production crew arrived earlier this week in South Africa to create his trademark magical stage in Sun City. Although one learns not be surprised by anything associated with André Rieu and his 110 strong entourage, they have managed against all odds to make alternative travel arrangements so that the tour can go ahead as planned.
When asked to comment on his upcoming tour to South Africa, André Rieu said: “My orchestra and I are so excited to be visiting South Africa! We are very much looking forward to all these concerts and meeting our new South African fans! Just bring your hearts to the concert and we will have an unforgettable night together!”
With two more shows added to accommodate the overwhelming response from fans, those who have missed out on early bookings now have the last opportunity to get their tickets for the fifth Sun City Show on the 27
th of April and the last Cape Town performance on 3 May.
It seems that there is an unexpected reward for André Rieu’s commitment to get here on time waiting for him in Sun City. Universal Records have announced that his DVD sales in South Africa have reached multi-platinum status, something very few international artists have ever achieved and will be presenting him with a special award during his Sun City performance.
“It is with great pride that we will be able to present Andre with a multi platinum sales award when he returns to South Africa this week. By multi platinum I mean 15 times platinum. This equates to sales of over 300 000 DVDs in South Africa. This is a huge milestone for any artist to reach and is a great achievement,” says Chris Venter, Head of Strategic Marketing at Universal Music.
