Sidney Sloane, presenter of CBeebies (DStv channel 306), is to visit South Africa for the first time in May where he’ll be performing with CBeebies favourites, the Fimbles, as well as a one-off solo show.

Sid (as he’s known), joined as presenter of CBeebies Africa in February 2009 and is also a firm favourite with children and parents as one of the presenters of CBeebies in the UK. In encouraging pre-schoolers to learn through play in CBeebies’ safe and trusted environment, Sid also provides fun ideas and games for children and parents while linking CBeebies’ award-winning series and children’s favourites on-air.

Sid will be filming for CBeebies in and around Johannesburg and Cape Town as well as performing live with the Fimbles at The Baby Expo on 13 and 14 May in Johannesburg, and his one-man show at The Good Food & Wine Show on 16 May, in Cape Town.

Sid is also a successful radio DJ, presenting shows on various UK BBC radio stations including CBeebies Radio. He has previously appeared in a variety of theatre productions and radio dramas and writes poems and short stories for children which are often published in CBeebies magazine in the UK. Sid is big sports fan and particularly loves football and enjoys singing and dancing in his spare time.

Fimbles is a unique and entertaining pre-school series inspired by finding and finding out, discovery and imagination. Fimbles encapsulates the surprise; wonder; joy; and stimulation that children experience when discovering new things. The series revolves around three very special creatures, Fimbo; Florrie; and Baby Pom - that live in a magical valley, which is constantly bathed in a warm, golden light. They have a natural talent for finding things. Before they find something, they get their special Fimbling Feeling their top knots twitch; their fingers twinkle; and their noses wrinkle. The thing they find may be a man-made object such as a tambourine, or a natural object like a feather or may be more abstract such as a sound or the wind.

Modelled on the UK's number one and BAFTA-winning children's channel, CBeebies launched in Africa in September 2008 on the DStv platform. The channel presents a mix of new children's programming from the BBC and independent producers, in a safe; trusted; and commercial-free environment.
