Mzansi Magic Market Day builds on the successes of previous Market Days, the biggest and best-loved talent and entrepreneurial initiative in the country. Mzansi Magic Market Day continues to focus on kids, but expands to include school and parent communities, as part of the M-Net Cares Initiative to bring magic to the lives of our people.

The concept for Mzansi Magic Market Day is simple: Kids aged seven to 15 set up a stall at venues in major centres in the country and sell their wares to the public, or share their talent as performers with the public. It's all about learning how much fun the business world can be and how to turn a creative idea into a profitable venture, but there is also a huge cash incentive for future moguls and superstars. The regional winners earn R1 500 in cash and the national winners take home R20 000.

Mzansi Magic’s channel manager, Lebone Maema, says becoming the new guardian of this nationwide initiative is underlining the values of the channel. "Mzansi Magic is a general entertainment channel for the entire family and we celebrate originality, creativity and a community spirit that can inspire people to live their dreams and improve the world they're living in.”

“Unemployment is rife in our country. There simply aren’t enough jobs for everyone who enters the work force after school. And there is only one solution to this dilemma: create your own means of making a living. Enter the market. Create jobs for other people. Be bold, be brave. It's not about job seeking; it's about job creation.”

Leading up to Mzansi Magic Market Day on Saturday, 3 September in Johannesburg (Maponya Mall), Durban (Gateway Mall), Cape Town (Canal Walk), Port Elizabeth (Boardwalk), Bloemfontein (Bloem Plaza), there will be crafts workshops at the same venues to teach young entrepreneurs to make their own products. Keep an eye out for the Mzansi Magic Market Day Mascot 'CASH' who will also participate at the workshops and on Market Day.

Furthermore, Mzansi Magic Market Day will now also support Room 13 – an after-school programme for underprivileged children, taking place in 16 schools across South Africa. Its aim is to help kids express their creativity through drawing, painting, poetry and drama. Previous Market Day winners will mentor and assist the Room 13 schools that take part in Mzansi Magic Market Day.

With the assistance of the Pick n Pay School Club previous Market Day winners will also identify five under-resourced schools in the five different Mzansi Magic Market Day regions. These 25 schools will be mentored by the previous winners and will each receive R1 500 capital to start-up their business.

M-Net's corporate social investment manager, Palesa Xorile says the scope of Mzansi Magic Market Day is enormous. "We are planning to reach thousands of kids and the chosen malls around the country will be bustling with activity. We are especially excited to go to Soweto for the first time. After all, the owner of our venue, Mr Maponya, is a living example of a man who took a family business to a mighty empire."

Mzansi Magic Market Day will be broadcast on Mzansi Magic. For more information on Mzansi Magic Market Day call the regional representatives in your area:
