The ten jury members, who were all voted off after the merge, cast their votes at the final Tribal Council before they left the island. The vote split was seven to three, with the tenth vote from the public also coming down on Hykie’s side, making the vote eight to three.

The result came as a bit of a shock to Survivor viewers – and to some of the jury members. Some of the votes that secured Hykie the win came from castaways who clashed with Hykie the most during their time on the island, like Harry Wiggins, Tejan Pillay and Sean September. “I was ready to cast my vote for Letshego,” Sean admitted tonight in the Finalé, “but Hykie just persuaded me with his answers.”

“He was the most deserving player,” said Harry. “He was more strategic and social and better in the challenges, and always loyal to Bonnie.”

“My reasoning was that as a public figure, Hykie will do good with the money,” Tejan explained.

Hykie also received votes from fellow celebrities Vanessa Haywood, Roxy Burger and his best friend on the island, Bonnie Henna. Mxo, who didn’t appreciate Hykie’s behaviour towards the end and condescendingly called him 'the preacher', also chose Hykie as the winner.

Malusi Mbambo, Simon Coetzer and Alison de Chazal remained loyal to their original tribe member, Letshego.
