Originally from Cape Town, White Rabbit is well known across South Africa for being one of the country’s top cover bands having played to packed houses nationwide. The journey into original music is an anticipated one by White Rabbit fans.

“It’s been a long time coming,” says Johan Du Plooy, lead singer of the band. “We always wanted to put out an original album, and make this a core focus moving forward. Playing covers has facilitated this for us in so many ways.”

What I Want is a song about the cruel and almost sadistic, yet arousing elements of a significant other in a relationship and the rollercoaster ride this takes one on.

“It was almost like getting in touch with our roots and the reasons why we got into the music business in the first place ... four guys with loud amps in a small little room just playing music and writing whatever fits the mood of the day, be it nice, soft soulful ballads or in your face driving rock and roll,” says bass player, Louis Pretorius, about the new direction the band has taken.

Comprising Johan Du Plooy on vocals and rhythm guitar; Louis Pretorius on bass; Devlon Horne on lead guitar; and Martin Jacobs on drums, White Rabbit has certainly paid its dues following five years of extensive gigging across South Africa and more recently, at hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The release of What I Want signifies a new beginning for the band in terms of musical style and direction. The band has taken a 'Nickleback' approach to the album in terms of the songs and direction. What I Want is the first single and straight off, it ‘kicks in’ with a driving rock sound that carries on throughout whilst still enjoying a lot of commercial elements. It’s a new, exciting direction for the band, good, clean , fun rock and roll for everyone.

White Rabbit have chosen to treat each single as a combined effort with no one person taking credit for the writing process even though certain songs are influenced more by one individual and their personal experiences at the time. “It’s a process and we all contribute creatively in some way or another” says drummer, Martin Jacobs, “but ultimately this is a road we have walked together and influenced each other lives in more ways that you can imagine. The songs are White Rabbits and it’s White Rabbit that allows the audience to hear our individual thoughts and emotions.”

The band comprises extremely talented musicians with much success to date through their live performances, exclusive tribute shows and band projects.

White Rabbit is currently touring Abu Dhabi and will return to South African stages in August.
