Munghana Lonene FM forms part of the SABC's national radio network, which comprises of 18 radio stations. Fifteen of these are dedicated specifically to public service broadcasting and include 11 full spectrum stations, one in each of the official languages of South Africa.
Munghana Lonene FM brings broadcasts to the xiTsonga people across Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. In English, 'Munghana Lonene' means 'my true friend'. According to the latest RAMS release (February 2007), the station boasts a listenership of 1 269 000 people, over a national seven-day average.
These listeners fall within LSM 4-8 brackets, and range from 25 to 49 years of age. The programme mix is to 'edutain', which combines an element of education with an attitude of entertainment. The station format offers an equal split between music and talk.
It offers a highly interactive environment with its listeners, providing a perfect mixture of news, music, current affairs, talk shows, education, sport, weather and traffic. The music repertoire consists of Jazz, R&B, Kwaito, House, Gospel and African traditional music.
