Larger-than-life jazz singer Harry Sideropoulos, radio DJ Koula Budler, stand-up comic David Kibuuka and Big Brother star Lerato Sengadi go head to head in a fight to become South Africa’s ultimate celebrity dinner party host in this special celebrity episode of Come Dine With Me South Africa. It will be broadcast on Monday, 5 November at 20:00 BBC Entertainment, channel 120 on DStv.
From dirty socks to chicken feet, it’s a no-holds-barred culinary show-down as the sautéing celebrities battle it out for R5000 Pick 'n Pay vouchers and R5000 for the charity of their choice.
Sideropoulos takes his guests on a culinary trip to Greece but gregarious host that he is, his evening is not without a slip up or two including a misspelt name on a guest’s plate and too many prunes for prune-averse Sengadi. But our game celebrities, drink, laugh and bond over stories of stalkers and critics!
Budler’s night of hosting sees an under-the weather Sengadi, claiming ‘illness’. More lamb from Greek-descended Budler doesn’t put lamb-averse Kibuuka off at all who scores her very generously for a night in which he felt he was given the leeway to ‘be himself’.
Sengadi’s African chic evening is all about trickery and she sets the cat amongst the pigeons by claiming that her mains, Soweto Stew, contains just about everything abhorrent to the sensitive palate – including chicken feet, tripe and giblets. Sideropoulos and Budler resort to champagne to brace themselves for the main course, only to be told that the Soweto Stew contains nothing more threatening than beef cubes. Relief all around, until dessert is served – Peach Cobbler. Sengadi only made it because she’d heard the phrase on American sit-coms and it sounded nice. But does it taste as good as it sounds?
Kibuuka spends much of his prep day playing guitar, piano and reading and his cooking running-order only really kicks in moments before his guests arrive. He kicks off his meal with a minimalist starter of raw beetroot and cheese, followed by a beige-colour steak and an even beiger mash. With a stray sock on the veranda causing much hilarity, Kibuuka scores ten for entertainment but much lower for his culinary skills.
As the week draws to a close just which celebrity will be crowned the king of queen of catering and walk off with the prize for the charity of their choice?
