Good Housekeeping and its Afrikaans version, Goeie Huishouding, was awarded the Philip Tyler Trophy at this year’s PICA Awards, held in Johannesburg on Thursday, 15 November. The award is for overall publishing excellence, in the category of launch/relaunch, which recognises excellence in new magazines.
“This recognition from the industry has been the perfect way to celebrate the magazine’s first birthday”, says editor, Sally Emery. “The magazine has established a real connection with its readers, which is reflected in our current ABC figure of 65 278 (total circulation, July to September). It has been an incredibly rewarding year for me and the whole Good Housekeeping team."
“Despite [launching] in tough economic times, Good Housekeeping was spot-on in its internal projections, with solid launch-circulation figures,” was the judges’ comment in the 2012 winners’ showcase. “The judges noted the good strategic decision to have both Afrikaans and English editions. Overall, a highly professional launch, with content and design that are perfectly aligned with the magazine’s target market.”
Good Housekeeping/Goeie Huishouding also boasts its first local cover star this December. The honours went to celebrity chef Reuben Riffel, who is to be seen on the cover with his wife Maryké and their daughter Latika.
