Ruby Gold is the stage persona created by Carla Mariza Claasen, a vocalist and songwriter born and raised in Johannesburg. Growing up, she was exposed to an array of musical influences such as Passada, R&B, Rave, Hip Hop, Kuduru, House and ultimately the love of her life, Jazz.

A freelance vocalist, she has worked industry headliners and alternative acts alike, including Meat the Veggies, Revolution and Monotone. Ruby Gold's sharp ear for the smoothest of sounds and her mature approach singles her out as a unique talent.

Her versatility stems from studying mic stalwarts such as Maxwell, Yukimi Nagano, Zap Mama, Jill Scott and the spiritual incantations of traditional shamans. Ruby Gold has crafted a sound unique to her multi-faceted repertoire - trance-jazz. The sound derives from the gradual down beat of spiritual trance and is nuanced with the sensuality of Jazz.

Her songs’ lyrical content delves into issues of femininity, the plight of human beings in a technologically rife climate and journeys of spirituality. She writes her own material and has received a host of accolades for her ability to move crowds of differing tastes.

Ruby Gold will be supported by Velvet Suite Lounge, DJ Miz Dee, Lefa and Xolani.

Catch Ruby Gold on Saturday, 13 April at 19:00. Tickets are available from Computicket and at the venue and are priced at R50.
