The Essence Of Africa woman respects and honours her origin, while keeping abreast of modern trends in a highly discerning manner. The magazine will feed her desire to explore the brands, people and trends that are leaving their mark on the African continent today, without sacrificing her roots.

The magazine will fill a void in the African magazine market by identifying, curating and publishing local and international content, design and craftsmanship. The visual and editorial aspects of the magazine will speak of true quality, with each page inspired by the values and interests of the black African woman. The magazine’s style will be elegant, yet simple and contemporary, and will create an inviting world that has something for every black African woman in every area of their lives. Readers will find sections that are dedicated to lifestyle issues, including food, health, relationships, travel, entertainment, fashion, careers and self-empowerment.

Essence Of Africa will have an initial print run of 40 000 magazines, with a digital offering as well. It will be distributed nationally and throughout the South African Development Community (SADC) region. The first issue is planned for a November launch and will be on sale at major retailers on Monday, 13 October.

Nawaal Nolwazi Mdluli, CEO of Kwenta Media, says: “We are very proud to be launching Essence Of Africa, as it will profile the most admired and well-respected women in South Africa and Africa.” According to Mdluli, Essence Of Africa is the black woman’s voice of hope, source of pride, beacon of joy and a constant reminder of her significance in the world. This magazine will celebrate every facet of being a black woman – whether it’s the deep colour of her skin or the authenticity of her spirit. It will remind her of the dreams she dares to dream and the vision to realise those dreams through hard work and perseverance.”

Mdluli continues: “After many months of work, I can finally unveil my magazine. What a delight. Working on the magazine concept was a highly enriching experience for me and I want to thank the fabulous team at Kwenta Media for their collaboration and support.”
