AdMag Awards honour top class publications

Consumer magazines deemed to be top of their class have been honoured at this year's ADmag Awards, hosted and initiated by John Farquhar and the editorial team of Advantage. A panel of judges was appointed with the daunting task of identifying ABC certified consumer magazines that stand head and shoulders above their competitors. Upper Case Media was awarded Publisher of the Year, while Bun Booyens, Editor of Weg, took the hotly contested Editor of the Year title. Best International Magazine of the Year was awarded to Heat, Magazine of the Year went to Weg, and Newcomer of the Year was awarded to the popular female title Woman & Home. For the first time, ADvantage introduced a new category into this year's awards - Best Advert in Advantage. It was claimed by recruitment specialist Ad Talent Ramorei.
The panel of judges included Melanie Walters, Media Director- Starcom; Janet Proudfoot, AIS/ADEX Director- Nielsen Media Research; Ron Derby, Media Correspondent- Business Day; Michelle Meyjes, Managing Director- Mediaedge: CIA; Jacques Breytenbach, Managing Director- Primedia Publishing; Gillian Jones, Managing Editor- Marketing Web and John Farquhar, Editor in Chief - ADvantage Magazine.
And the winners were: Annual: Eat Out; Christian/Religious: Lééf; Décor: Habitat; Environmental: Africa Geographic; Female: Woman & Home; General Interest: Heat; Lifestyle: Weg; Male: FHM; Motoring: Car; Parenting/Crafts: Woman's Value / dit; Special Interest: Tuin Paleis; Sports: Golf Digest SA; Youth Culture: Seventeen; Custom: Woolworths Taste; Magazine supplements: Sunday Times, Lifestyle.
This is the second consecutive year that seventeen has received top honours in its category and is the fifth award for the title, which won Best Youth magazine as well as the Rossi Trophy for the coveted Best Consumer magazine award at the Sappi MPASA Pica awards in 2004, and Best Youth magazine (shared with Blunt) at the Pica's in 2005.
Also, only six months after its maiden issue hit the streets, Lééf - met hart & siel, achieved top honours in the category for best religious/Christian magazine in recognition for excellence in content and visuals.
