Everyone’s favourite Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Po and Tinky-Winky – comes to Johannesburg for holiday entertainment at its best for the entire family. The four popular characters from the CBeebies hit show will be keeping youngsters entertained during the holiday break followed by a fun session in the kitchen with I Can Cook’s Katy Ashworth.

There will be three live hour-long stage shows every day followed by a 90-minute play session in the massive Fun Zone with a host of activities including face painting and gaming stations.

“The DStv Kids Xtravaganza is the perfect opportunity for DStv to bring our amazing kiddies entertainment to life. The Teletubbies is regarded as one of the top children’s TV programmes in the world. It is certainly an institution in South Africa and we are excited to bring these well-loved characters as well as I Can Cook presenter Katy Ashworth to our local audiences,” says Simon Camerer, chief marketing and sales officer at DStv.

The award-winning Teletubbies, which has been described as a truly British institution, has attracted an audience of around one billion children in 120 countries around the globe. It was announced earlier this year that the programme is back in 2015 with Jim Broadbent, who will play the part of the Voice Trumpet and Jane Horrocks, who will lend her voice to the show’s new “Tubby phone”.

Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po frolic and play in the idyllic Teletubbyland while a baby's face in a sun coos and laughs. The Teletubbies have televisions in their stomachs on which they watch real children. A large, pinwheel-shaped windmill begins a “magical event” during episodes.

Ashworth has become a household name around the world thanks to presenting CBeebies’ I Can Cook, which welcomes children into the kitchen to create a host of delicious meals and snacks that are quick and easy to prepare even if the grown-ups don’t know their way around the kitchen.

She is thrilled with the challenge to get youngsters in the kitchen and cooking up a storm. Ashworth says: “This is exactly what I've wanted to do since I was a little girl making home-made TV programmes in my loft. To be given the opportunity to present such a brilliant show that embodies everything I love – food, children and music – was just amazing. I am so proud to be the face of a show that’s sending out such a great message and I thank my lucky stars every day.”
