So what is considered a perfect audition? And what can Idols SA entrants – and anyone else facing an auditioning process – do to ensure that they have the best audition possible? Msengana tells Media Update’s Cassy van Eeden more.

Is there really such a thing as the ‘perfect audition’?

All four judges are looking for different things, so achieving the perfect audition can seem daunting. But of course there have been perfect auditions.

It’s about ticking all the boxes and making sure you’re fully prepared to give yourself the best opportunity of succeeding. Song choice, relevance and performance all count.

In your capacity as both an Idols SA judge and as a performer, what makes for a good audition?

Passion and originality. Show that you’ve done everything to prepare for that moment. With so many things being said about your performance from the judges, other contestants and the South African public, it’s very easy to get confused.

And if you don’t know or trust yourself, you’ll have a terrible time.

Do you have any other hints and tips?

Expand you knowledge of music. The more you’re exposed to, the more you can stretch yourself.
