Biggest Loser Extra South Africa kicks-off
On Monday, 7 January, Khanyi Magubane (28) from the Blue Team was the first person voted off The Biggest Loser South Africa. Khanyi hails from Johannesburg, where she works as a writer, poet, journalist and radio presenter. Unfortunately, for her, she gained weight, instead of losing it.
However, despite her loss instead of going back home, she is transferred to another house, where she can continue her new health regimen, still have a chance to rejoin the group near the end of the programme and stand a chance of winning the prize money worth R250 000.
The Biggest Loser Extra is a unique South African addition to The Biggest Loser International, but it is cloaked in secrecy, so that the contestants have no idea of what is going to happen.
The participants who are eliminated from the main house do not go home immediately. They spend a week on their own in The Biggest Loser Extra house in Umdloti which serves as a halfway house for the contestants.
The purpose of The Biggest Loser Extra house is that the contestant who loses the most weight in the week that they are there will be given the chance to rejoin the game in the last week of the show, giving them a good chance of winning the whole game.
Each episode will follow the evicted loser for the week that they are in the new house, to see what use they make of their time focusing on the new journey the eliminated person has taken, looking at their history in the main house, at how they fared and how they plan to keep healthy in future.
The last episode of The Biggest Loser Extra is a Holiday Special broadcast on 16 March, just ahead of the Easter holidays. It is presented by Lisa and Bruce, the trainers, and contains vital tips on how to survive the holidays.
