In order to assure a smooth transition, Abrahams is staying in his position until Saturday, 30 April. Universal Music will announce a successor shortly.
Abrahams, one of South Africa’s best-known music industry figures, familiar to millions as a judge on the top-rated
Idols South Africa and
SA’s Got Talent television shows, joined Universal Music in June 2012. He is handing over now to focus fully on his wide-ranging business and media interests, including potential television production projects.

As a massive music and media fan, I will always be involved on these fronts. I know that the team at Universal Music will continue to take the great business forward.”
Since taking over the leadership of Universal Music South Africa, Abrahams has overseen hit projects from domestic stars including Kelly Khumalo, Black Coffee, Elvis Blue, Zahara, Mafikizolo and Revolution and international artists such as Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Sam Smith and Mumford and Sons.
In addition to integrating EMI into Universal Music in South Africa, Abrahams led the company’s expansion across the continent, signing agreements and developing partnerships with artists, labels and consumer brands in countries including Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and Angola.
