“We’re calling for corporates and the public to come together in uniting the Mother City for a good cause,” says Lorenzo Davids, CEO of Community Chest in the Western Cape, a non-profit organisation which identifies and supports community welfare initiatives.
Davids says that all surplus funds from this year’s Twilight Run will be invested into education sectors, to help equip scholars going into the 2017 school year.
The annual event, which is celebrating its 34
th birthday unofficially earmarks the start of the festive season in the City and is expected to attract in excess of 10 000 fun walkers, runners and skaters who will strut their way from Darling Street at the Grand Parade for 4km through the side streets of the CBD and back to the starting point again.
Participants showcasing their creative costume design talents can enter the dress-up competition which is held at 17:30, prior to the start of the run/walk. Afterwards, participants can party it up to Cape Town Radio DJs at the
Twilight Festival on the Grand Parade.
Families and friends join forces to enter as teams as well as schools, NGOs, municipal departments, large corporations and small businesses.
“It is the only fun run/walk event that awards no medals for first place over the finish line and has no timekeepers but rather encourages community-based revelry in support of a great cause,” Davids explains.
