“The Sunflower Fund was featured as a separate wave at the inaugural Cell C Day Of Races in Cape Town in 2016. To our delight, the entire wave, entrants, organisers, charity, fitted the ethos of the Day Of Races perfectly,” says Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports. “It is for this reason that in 2017 we are extremely excited to welcome The Sunflower Fund as the event’s official charity, both in Cape Town and Johannesburg. We look forward to hosting two exciting road races in support of this deserving charity.”

Founded in 1999, The Sunflower Fund is a South African non-profit organisation dedicated to creating awareness, educating the public and facilitating the registration process for people to join the South African Bone Marrow Registry.

“Our mission is to educate and register stem cell donors,” says Rasheda Van Den Hurk, The Sunflower Fund PR and events specialist. “We fundraise to cover recruitment costs to grow a healthy, effective and ethnically diverse South African Bone Marrow Registry. The 2016 Cell C Day Of Races in Cape Town was an awesome experience for us. It was the first time that we participated in an event of such a capacity and excellence. We loved every minute of it and so did our runners. We would like all entrants to help us spread the message of hope. Our partnership with the Cell C Day Of Races is sure to enhance the reach of our campaign.”

The Cell C Day Of Races allows entrants to choose the start wave that suits them best. Instead of going for gold, runners are encouraged to beat their personal best finishing times, be social, take photographs and videos at designated points on route, share it to the event’s social media platforms and stand a chance to win prizes.
