The Mad Hatters’ Tea Party will offer a variety of activities, including human chess, a pritt hat parade, a best dressed competition, a chocolate hunt and several other surprises. Pets are also welcome, but must be social, safe and be put on a leash.

The event has officially been approved by the Guinness World Records and all attendees dressed up as a character will be able to take part of setting a new record. Picnics In The Park will be donating R5 for each person in costume to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Randburg.

South Africa holds the Guinness World Record for the ‘Most Vuvuzela’s Played Simultaneously’, which was over 12 000; ‘Most Surfers Riding The Same Wave’, which was 110; ‘Most Runners in an Ultra Marathon’, which was 14 343.

For this attempt, organisers are hoping that at least 3 000 attendees will dress-up to make history and support this cause. To take part in the Guinness World Records attempt, participants will have to register and agree to the terms and conditions.

The following character dress-up options are available:

  • Alice;
  • The White Rabbit;
