Listeners were encouraged to email the station and nominate themselves or someone else for assistance from the Mix 93.8 FM team. Countless emails were received, and the station chose four entrants whose needs were fulfilled. They were:

Elaine King

King was nominated by her daughter-in-law, Alex, who told the station that King has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour, which requires a craniotomy to be removed. Her surgery was scheduled for Wednesday, 13 February.

Besides the emotional challenges caused by the tumour, her hair was cropped short and it left a scar across the front of her head. According to Mix 93.8 FM, all Alex wanted for Elaine was a ‘beautiful wig for a beautiful lady’, which the family could not a?ord due to financial constraints.

King says that she really wanted a wig because she did not want children to be frightened of her because of the scar. With the help of BellaZara Hair Boutique, Mix 93.8 FM was able to surprise King at home with a R7 000 voucher for a new wig of her choice.

Andy Woest

Fifty-seven-year-old Woest nominated himself for a '#FillYourHeart' wish. Currently unemployed and residing with his daughter, he wished for his 1993 Toyota Camry to be serviced. His last service was done in 2015 and he did not want to put any additional stress on his daughter who is supporting him financially.

Mix 93.8 FM teamed up with Randburg Midas and Randburg Auto Repairs to give Woest's car a proper service.

Alice Wilson

Wilson was nominated by her friend Irene. She is 81 years old and lives at Sappers Haven Retirement Village in Lombardy East Johannesburg. Wilson did not have a washing machine and was doing her laundry by washing her clothes by hand.

Mix 93.8 FM delivered a brand new washing machine to Wilson at her home.

Natasha van Zyl

Van Zyl wrote in for her sister, mother and stepfather. She is 30 years old and was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in July 2018.

Besides the fast deterioration rate and cancer lumps spreading and growing throughout her body, it has also placed emotional and financial stress on her family.

The family does not have medical aid and her stepfather is currently unemployed. Much of her mother’s salary goes to paying bills, medicine for van Zyl and a roof over their heads.

Struggling to fulfill their basic needs and with only a bar fridge in the house, which is too small to cater to the family’s dietary requirements, Mix 93.8 FM surprised the family with a new fridge and grocery vouchers.
