The day's activities, which took place at the Sandton Convention Centre, were part of the company's 67 minutes of positively contributing to communities, in honour of international Nelson Mandela Day.

The food parcels were distributed through Rise Against Hunger Africa — a non-profit organisation that has a mission to end hunger by providing food and aid to South Africa’s most vulnerable.

Cell C also donated an amount of R50 000 to the organisation. This was done to assist Rise Against Hunger Africa in fulfilling the role of providing the necessary resources to alleviate poverty.

The theme for this year’s Meal Packing Event was ‘This is Possible’. Rise Against Hunger International recently launched a campaign, which is in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

It also aligns with goal number two: Zero Hunger by the year 2030.

The meals packaged comprise rice, soya, dehydrated vegetable mix and a fortification pack of 23 minerals and vitamins, specifically formulated to combat malnutrition (complying with the UNICEF standard).
