According to the organisation, the basic need to keep warm is one we all share — even more so in the rural areas where most of the Clover Mama Afrikas operate and run their centres daily.
It adds that the beautiful donated blankets arrived just in time to ensure the cold would be kept at bay during the chilly winter days. It is believed that one big blanket can cover up to four children, so with these blankets, Clover Mama Afrika adds that it can keep quite a few small bodies warm.
Professor Elain Vlok, Clover manager for Clover Mama Afrika Trust, helped pack all the donated blankets to be ready and delivered to the various Mama Afrikas across the country.
"As always, this is such a welcome and generous donation from Aranda, and we are deeply grateful that they have continued to support us year-on-year with this generous donation. This makes a tremendous difference to many homes and is most definitely not a donation that is taken lightly by the Mama Afrikas and Clover Mama Afrika," says Vlok.
"The blankets were neatly packed, just in time to be couriered to our Clover Mama Afrikas before the bitter cold started. The Mamas near Gauteng have already received their blankets and are over the moon with happiness. Thank you, Aranda Textile Mills," says the organisation.
As Clover's CSI arm, Clover Mama Afrika supports and upskills female community leaders nationwide. Since its inception in 2001, the CSI initiative has appointed 58 Mama Afrikas and has since seen the project host 440 training sessions with over 2 313 beneficiaries over the years.
It aims to teach and guide strong females (called 'Mamas' due to their standing in their neighbourhoods) in communities nationwide to build their skills and sustain and improve their community projects.
Only the most committed are enrolled, concludes the organisation, and these include women looking after orphans, older people and those suffering from HIV / Aids.
