This initiative spans Cape Town, Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal, and is a critical step in our ongoing efforts to preserve marine life and foster environmental stewardship, says FNB.

"As we enter the second year of FNB Clean-Up partnerships, we're excited to announce the expansion of our programme to include 'River Clean-Ups' in communities like Alexandra, Diepsloot, Tembisa and others," says Katleho Mahloane, FNB's commercial marketing head.

"Recognising the vital role of Wastepreneurs, we've provided over 70 individuals with clean-up kits and trolleys, empowering them to make a tangible difference in our environment," Mahloane adds.

Mahloane says, "In a society marked by inequality, it's imperative to support our communities and local economies. Our 'Beach Clean-Up' campaign is more than just an environmental effort; it's a pledge to enrich lives and foster sustainable livelihoods. By asking communities 'How can we help you?' we aim to better understand and address their unique needs."

The 'Beach Clean-Up' initiative kicks off on Saturday, 9 December 2023 and runs until Friday, 5 January 2024. Anyone can get involved, and FNB urges all communities, ocean lovers and visitors to actively participate in keeping our beaches pristine.

FNB says, "This initiative aligns with our commitment to building a sustainable future and impacting positive societal change. Cleaner beaches not only benefit our ecosystems but also enhance the experience for local communities, tourists and visitors who support nearby entrepreneurs."

"These small businesses form the backbone of the South African economy, and through our '#FNBSupportsLocalBuyLocal 100 days of summer' campaign, we're facilitating convenient, safe payment options on the FNB App for these local entrepreneurs," FNB adds.

"We recognise the power of collaboration in achieving impactful change," says Mahloane. "We are calling on everyone — our staff, customers, holiday-makers and local communities — to join hands in this great cause. With the power of making one small change, your participation will go a long way to helping support local businesses and ensuring a happy and prosperous summer for all."

FNB concludes, "This campaign is more than a clean-up; it's a call to action for everyone to play a role in preserving our precious marine environments and supporting local economies. Join us in making a difference."
