The campaign encouraged Absa colleagues, customers and community members to be an active force for good and raise funds via the Strava community to donate towards community upliftment. For every 1km run / walked by a Team Absa member on Strava, the bank donated R1 to make a difference in the community.

"We are proud and humbled by this award," says Jabulile Nsibanyoni, head of sponsorships, brand and marketing at Absa.

"When we announced the four-year partnership with the 'RUN YOUR CITY' series of events in 2021, our strategic intent was to promote a healthy and active lifestyle through running and walking while making a difference in communities," Nsibanyoni adds.

The 'Absa Run Your City' 10 kilometre race took place in five provinces throughout 2023. It took place in:
  • Gqeberha
  • Cape Town
  • Durban
  • Pretoria, and
  • closed out with over 11 000 runners in Joburg respectively.

"Through this campaign, we have collectively raised R1.5-million that Absa will be donating to communities in need. Thank you to everyone who participated and joined the force for a good movement. All cities showed up in the true spirit of Ubuntu. Whether you ran or walked, your kilometres count and have helped us reach this milestone," Nsibanyoni says.

"Through the Absa 'RUN YOUR CITY' partnership, we can truly empower Africa's tomorrow, together — one story at a time," adds Nsibanyoni.

"It is a tremendous honour for the Absa 'RUN YOUR CITY' series to receive the 2023 Active and Wellbeing Award," says Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports and Series Founder.

"This recognition underscores our commitment to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, and we are grateful for the acknowledgment of our efforts in making a positive impact on the sports industry and the wellbeing of our participants. A massive thank you to our sponsors, partners and all the incredible entrants whose ongoing support is the key to the continued success of the Absa 'RUN YOUR CITY' series," adds Meyer.

"We encourage more people to join us next year, as we elevate this campaign to greater heights and help even more communities," concludes Nsibanyoni.
