The Durban SPAR Women's Challenge has announced that, for the second year running, it has supported Sinethemba Women's Foundation based in Inanda. Sinethemba Mbatha, the Foundation Leader, was presented with a cheque of R100 000 after this year's Durban SPAR Women's Challenge with R5 from each entry being donated to their foundation, and the balance topped up by SPAR KZN.
This small organisation has five tiers that assist vulnerable women in their neighbourhood: supporting skills and business development, guiding women on a path towards a promising career, and two that align with SPAR's values — ending Gender Based Violence and helping young women with menstrual hygiene.
"We at Sinethemba Women's Foundation gratefully acknowledge the R100 000 sponsorship provided by SPAR KZN to support our organisational mission of advancing the socio-economic empowerment of women in KwaZulu-Natal," says Mbatha.
"It is our firm belief that when you uplift a woman, you uplift the community she inhabits, as women are regularly agents for change. Sinethemba is passionate about all things to do with women, which is why our projects focus on promoting women's health, eradicating gender-based violence and skills development in our area," concludes Mbatha.
