This milestone demonstrates a consistent commitment to building a workplace where people feel empowered, connected and supported. The focus on purpose and culture comes together to create meaningful impact on the Group's strategy, says the group.
The Top Employer Institute, a global authority, evaluates hundreds of human management practices across six interconnected domains to create benchmarked best practice standards and actionable insights for companies across the globe, adds the group.
Momentum Group recorded its strongest progress in Business Strategy (up 10%) and Purpose and Values (up 9%), reflecting a focused effort to translate these into a functional strategy. This is largely driven by a supportive and clearly defined set of cultural behaviours. The Group scored full marks (100%) for business strategy, leadership, digital HR, learning and ethics and integrity. Every year the Group uses the results as a prompt to guide continuous improvement in areas that will contribute to the organisation being known as an employer of choice, says the group.
"Excellence is never accidental," says Njabulo Nyawo, Momentum Group Chief People Executive. "It is shaped through clarity, consistency and the dedicated contribution of our people. This certification is an acknowledgement to the individuals who bring our purpose and work-place culture to life every day."
Where Purpose, Strategy and People Align
Momentum Group earned its strongest results in domains that anchor organisational clarity and employee connection to its purpose. High performance in Purpose and Values (97.65%) and Sustainability (91.6%) highlights a strong alignment to the Group's purpose of building and protecting our clients' financial dreams. There is a benefit for employees to authentically relate to the Group's purpose and how they bring it to life in their everyday work. Repeated and consistent messaging along with open dialogue sessions with senior leadership has facilitated this success. Standout results which achieved higher than SA benchmarks, were in Digital HR and Learning where the company has focused on making it easier for employees to access HR services and professional development opportunities in practical ways, adds the group.
Nyawo continues, "Embedding culture and purpose improves how employees feel connected to their work, creating a culture of excellence that reflects on how we make our clients, advisers, regulators and other stakeholders feel."
"When people understand the 'why', their contribution becomes intentional and courageous. And we encourage that empowerment," says Nyawo. "When purpose, culture and strategy align, every individual action adds up to something much bigger. It drives a culture which enables collective excellence."
Making the six measured domains clear:
- The Steer domain focuses on the foundational elements that guide an organisation's strategic direction. It covers the creation of robust business and people strategies, ensuring all activities align with core objectives and values. This domain also highlights the importance of strong leadership and culture as essential pillars to support long-term success and adaptability in a changing environment.
- The Shape domain is about structuring the organisation to meet strategic goals effectively. This includes leadership development, organisational change and the integration of digital HR practices. By ensuring the right infrastructure, processes, and work environment, this domain helps organisations stay resilient and foster innovation while supporting employees in their roles.
- The Attract domain addresses the early stages of the employee journey, focusing on how organisations draw in and integrate talent. It includes strategies for employer branding, talent acquisition and onboarding, all aimed at building a capable workforce aligned with the organisation's strategic goals.
- The Develop domain centres on the continuous growth and advancement of employees within the organisation. It encompasses performance management, career development and learning and development, ensuring that employees have the skills and opportunities needed to thrive. This domain supports a culture that enables improvement and keeps the workforce aligned with evolving business needs.
- The Engage domain focuses on maintaining strong connections between the organisation and its employees. It covers wellbeing, employee listening, and rewards and recognition strategies, all aimed at enhancing satisfaction, motivation and retention.
- The Unite domain is dedicated to fostering an organisational culture that aligns with the company's purpose and values. It includes elements such as ethics and integrity, diversity, equity and inclusion and sustainability. This domain is crucial for building an environment where employees feel connected, respected and motivated, supporting long-term sustainability and collective success.
What Moved and Why: Practical Changes Behind the Gains
Momentum Group's progress in Shape is reflected in the Digital HR score of 100%, ahead of both global and national benchmarks. This improvement is linked to Momentum's continued investment in HR technology and employee self-service, including an enhanced HR platform experience that helps employees access information, manage requests and use career tools more efficiently, says the group.
In Develop, Momentum Group's Learning score increased to 100%, also outperforming global and national benchmarks. The Group attributes this to a sharper focus on targeted, role-relevant learning and clearer career navigation including programmes that strengthen future skills, mentoring support and more visible pathways for continuous growth, adds the group.
"We've put energy into two things: better tools and clearer pathways," Nyawo says. "When employees can find what they need quickly and learning is built around real roles and future skills, development stops being theoretical and becomes part of how work gets done."
These strengths reflect a workplace designed to enable people to thrive, a place where individuals feel valued, respected and connected to meaningful work, says the group.
Momentum Group's HR priorities for the next 12 months include a deeper embedding of the culture behaviours, aligned to the company's purpose and a Group-wide culture survey where all feedback from our people will be unpacked and solutions crafted to continuously build a workplace where everyone feel invested, valued, connected, cared for and proud to work for Momentum Group.
"This certification is not about an accolade, it is earned and measured against global best practices," Nyawo concludes. "It is about intentionally shaping a workplace where people feel seen, supported and inspired to contribute, making Momentum Group a great place to work."
