Blue Label Telecoms, South Africa’s fastest-growing telecoms company, has appointed The Red Phone brand campaigners, to provide PR services to the group, which includes a wide range of business-to-business and business-to-consumer brands.

The Red Phone was awarded the account at the beginning of August, after winning a five-way pitch against some of the largest, most well-known agencies in the world. Blue Label Telecoms joins a number of other high profile, blue-chip companies on The Red Phone’s client roster. Among them are AECI; Charka; Coca-Cola; and Nampak.

Moving forward, the agency is responsible for building and managing the profile of Blue Label Telecoms, both locally and internationally.

According to the Head of Marketing of Blue Label Telecoms, Heloise Mgcina, The Red Phone’s pitch was well researched and comprehensive. “They clearly understood our business. They were also excited by the opportunity, and we had a positive rapport from the beginning.”

Lauren Winchester, Managing Director of The Red Phone, says that Blue Label Telecoms has been on the agency’s radar since 2007. “Through a mutual friend, we met Mark and Brett Levy prior to the company’s listing that year. They were dynamic; energetic; and inspiring, and we knew we wanted to work with them. In our first meeting, after being given the account, Mark said, 'All good things come to those who wait…' We couldn’t agree more!”

The primary focus of Blue Label Telecoms is developing and providing prepaid products and services to consumers in the 'second economy'. This purpose is consistent with the agency’s experience, which includes involvement in politics and 'main market' initiatives for brands, like Coca-Cola and MicroFinance South Africa.

Although the account has been in place for a short time, The Red Phone has already managed the annual results announcement in August, as well as the launch of mibli™ powered by Microsoft OneApp™ in September. “Given the entrepreneurial nature of Blue Label Telecoms, we expect this pace to continue for a long time to come,” say Mgcina and Winchester together.
