In 2010 Kwa-Zulu Natal’s, Dominique Mann, was chosen as one of the winners in the Miss Earth South Africa in association with Consol. Mann formed part of four winners who were strong and dynamic individuals, and who worked towards making SA a greener space for us all.

The Miss Earth South Africa in association with Consol strives to create a platform to empower young South African women to take on environmental issues and become Ambassadors for the extensive environmental, conservation and sustainable work done by the organisation. In its 9th year, this leadership programme for young women has seen several Ambassadors come out of the beautiful province of KZN.

The 26 year old Professional Gymnast and Sports; Dominique Mann, now takes on a new green challenge. The new and exciting green Gateway Hotel, hosted a press announcement as the Miss Earth SA local organisers announced that Dominique has now been given the opportunity to represent SA at the 2011 International Miss Earth event to be hosted in Pattaya, Thailand on 12 November and plans to map the Earth Green as she sets her goals on the ultimate International title, Miss Earth 2011. Dominique will be representing South Africa amongst 100 International delegates from around the world this November as she takes part in the 11th Annual International Miss Earth. She will arrive in Bangkok late October and will spend three weeks in South East Asia as she travels throughout Thailand with her fellow contestants. The delegates will be visiting schools and communities, promoting environmental campaigns and programmes and meeting with dignitaries and environmental bodies across the region.

As part of the Miss Earth South Africa 2010 journey, Dominique was a part of visiting schools and addressing learners on several environmental issues such as glass recycling, energy efficiency and water wise consumption and encouraging new lifestyle behaviours that they will keep close to heart, for years to come. This young woman now faces the opportunity of a lifetime and an experience that will change her life forever. Dominique is no stranger to travelling, but as she embarks on her voyage to South East Asia a new world of culture, experiences and learning begins.

National Director, Catherine Constantinides said, “We have no doubt that Dominique will do us proud on an international stage. We have chosen to giver this opportunity to her because of her dedication to the green cause and we believe that she has what it takes to fly our National flag high on the international stage. Dom has represented South Africa in her professional sports career from a very young age, she knows what it takes to go all the way, to compete for a title and we are proud of her efforts as a Green Ambassador.”

The Miss Earth has gained great momentum over the past few years. International pageants are no longer focussing solely on the appearance and glamour of the finalists. This event was created to ensure the role of young women in the global crisis that we are faced with, the destruction of Mother Earth. And it has created an incredible platform for awareness over the past 11 years across the world.

Dominique will be dressed by South African renowned designers, Bianca Warren, Gerrit from Claris and former Durbanite designer Colette Designer Garments.

The Miss Earth South Africa organisation will also be a launching a full KZN Regional campaign later this year for their 2012 Miss Earth South Africa campaign with the support of AVIS and the Gateway Hotel, as they celebrate their 10th Anniversary. It is for this reason that they are partnering with likeminded companies and individuals in the region as they extend their green footprint. The Gateway Hotel has been a conscious green partner and having embraced the green revolution with the Miss Earth South Africa, exciting things are in the pipeline. Entries for 2012 will open officially next month and the idea is to create a green hype in the province as sustainable, green campaigns are launched and extended throughout the province.
