“A quarter of the world’s population is directly affected by disability, either by working as a care giver or being a family member,” says Siyakha Consulting’s executive director, Dionne Kerr.

This year’s theme for International Day of Persons with Disability is ‘Together for a Better World for All: Including Persons with Disabilities in Development’.

“Siyakha Consulting has worked for over ten years in the successful and sustainable integration of persons with disability into the workplace. Whilst we work actively to source the right candidate for the role, internship or learnership, we also offer many different interventions which work towards effective and long-term disability management,” says Kerr.

Highlights for Siyakha this year have been integrating candidates at many companies in Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

“Siyakha is working with several leading corporates in establishing learnership programmes for 2012 and in an advisory role to work towards the new Employment Equity targets coming into effect in February,” says Kerr.

The company has also participated in several events highlighting disability – from a Disability Breakfast event in Cape Town where key stakeholders gathered to discuss various issues surrounding disability, to a Diversity Careers event at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where Siyakha hosted a record number of attendees at a disability event.
